Liu Lei was born in 1988, in a small village called Panzhuang, where he grew up with his grandparents. It's in this village that he began to practice photography. Panzhuang is located in the plain region near Feicheng City, Shandong Province, where villagers rely on plowing the land for their livelihood. In recent years, the villages became involved in planting vegetables and this has improved the villagers' income. However, working the land is harder than before. Liu Lei remains true to his vision and the environment in which he grew up.
